Why I'm sitting out of fitting in

The secret to standing out is no secret...

I don't give a whiskers about fitting in and neither should you.

We're conditioned, from birth, pretty much, to fit in; to fall in line; to do as we're told.

Sometimes it's necessary, right? Actual lines (queues) are useful for avoiding mayhem in the supermarket, and laws, generally, are pretty helpful: less murder, stealing etc. Laws, rules, do-as-you're-tolds keep people (who naturally are selfish) from acting less selfish.

The thing is, there's been an inordinate amount of overspill from all the law-making and rule-keeping; it can make us believe we need to fit in.

And we all know what a load of BS that is.

Hey, look, there are tonnes of people out there who don't give two hoots about any of this. They're ok with just getting on and getting by, not digging into who they really are and what they have to offer the world - and giving it to the world.

To be yourself, truly and authentically, every single day is an enormous undertaking.

Can I say, hand on heart, I've been myself all of the time for the past 37 years, on every occasion, and to every other person I've met? Nope.

But I'm doing my damn best to do it now.

So, what on earth has this got to do with copywriting?

Well, you see, I'm not necessarily the copywriter you need. If you're ok with run-of-the-mill and ticking boxes, we might not hit it off and that's ok; there are tonnes of copywriters who'll give you what you need (and that's great for them too BTW). If this kind of approach works for you, keep doing it, seriously. You do you.

If, on the other hand, you're fine with not being everyone's cup of tea; if you're uber niche or a little bit out there; if your team is a bunch of f***ing oddballs and misfits, then I have a feeling we'll get along. And I'd love to get to know your brand better.

I believe - I always have - that there's always another way of doing things. Screw the status quo. Do things your way.

This is why I'm The Other Copywriter. Hey, nice to meet you ;)

I write fashion, lifestyle, culture and travel copy and content for bold, beautiful and brave brands. Please, come say hello.

Let's weird out together.
